Time Commitment: 20-25 hours/week, flexible schedule 
 
Compensation: $35,000

Organizational Summary The Aluminum Cans for Burned Children Foundation (ACBC) was founded in 1989 by a group of firefighting and medical organizations to help children who suffer from severe burn injuries. The ACBC program pays for special medical equipment not normally covered by insurance to aid in the healing process and strives to meet the individual needs of patients. Our mission is to prevent burn injuries through fire education and to impact the physical and emotional rehabilitation of pediatric burn survivors.  
 
ACBC programs include providing the Fire Safety House, operated by firefighters, to Northeast Ohio elementary schools and community home days promoting fire safety in the home. The goal of ACBC is to educate young children about the dangers of fire, how to call 911 in the event of an emergency, what to do if there is a fire in their home, and other important fire safety tips. ACBC also serves pediatric victims of fire, ages 5 to 18 years of age that have been treated at the John Gannon Burns and Trauma Center at MetroHealth. The program provides a summer and winter camp for 20 to 30 children. 
 
Job Description 
 
The role of the Executive Director is to fulfill the mission of and secure financial support for ACBC. This person will oversee the operations of the organization including administration, staff, and finances. The ED will ensure that the operational, personnel, information and communications technology, and financial infrastructure and systems meet organizational needs. The ED will direct and manage the staff including the can collection team and fire safety instructors. The ED will plan and execute ACBC’s involvement in burn camps and fire safety events. The ED will build and maintain relationships with the firefighting community and broader community affected by fire safety. The ED will also work closely with the Board of Directors on strategy, governance, and fundraising.  
 
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors. This position is part-time with a flexible schedule and work conducted remotely. It is based in the Greater Cleveland area and requires regular local travel.  
 
Responsibilities  • Operations - Establish policies and procedures for all administrative functions and day-to-day operations.  • Fundraising - Diversify funding streams, write grant applications and reports and maintain foundational relationships, apply for other local funding opportunities including corporate and institutional support. • Finance - Develop an annual budget and oversee finances of the organization. Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the organization, including submission to the Board of monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization, and ensuring that audits and other filings are conducted annually. 
 

• Programming - Organize fire safety instruction events throughout the year and the annual burn camp. Keep program curriculum up-to-date for current audiences. Manage aluminum cans recycling program.  • Communications - Creates and effectively communicates key messaging (program updates, initiatives, event announcements) to targeted stakeholders via multiple communication platforms, including social media, website, other media outlets and personal relationships. • Staff - Oversee and direct staff members and contractors. Hold regular touchpoints to monitor productivity. Conduct performance reviews.  • Board - Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions. Hold regularly scheduled board meetings according to the bylaws. Provide monthly organizational updates to the board. Guide the organization and board through strategic planning. Implement and execute a development strategy that leads the organization to being self-sustaining. Support board development efforts and strengthen board engagement.  • Community - Engage the firefighting community to maintain and build support for ACBC. Expand ACBC’s reach within the greater community to build partnerships and support.  • Other - Complete all other work to fulfill the mission of ACBC as directed by the Board.  
 
Qualifications The Executive Director must be committed to ACBC’s mission and have proven leadership and management experience. Other required qualifications include the following:  • Significant nonprofit management experience • Strong communication skills for internal and external relationships • Ability to engage in high level strategic thinking and planning, to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, Board, volunteers, and potential donors • Highly self-motivated • Knowledge of and experience with QuickBooks • Current Driver’s License  • Willingness to commit up to 25 hours a week  
 
Preferred Experience • Previous experience working with children • Strong financial management skills • Fundraising experience, including grant writing and donor development • Connection to the firefighting community  • Familiarity with the fire service structure
